Armenia continues to remain in the list of “partly free” countries, as per the 2018 report of Freedom House titled “Freedom in the World 2018. Democracy in Crisis”. Nagorno-Karabakh which is included in the list of 14 territories is also named “partly free”.

The authors of the report assessed the level of freedom ion 195 countries and 14 territories.

As to Armenia’s neighbors, Georgia is also among “partly free” countries, while Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran are “not free”.

According to the report, seventy-one countries suffered net declines in political rights and civil liberties, with only 35 registering gains. This marked the 12th consecutive year of decline in global freedom.

The United States retreated from its traditional role as both a champion and an exemplar of democracy amid an accelerating decline in American political rights and civil liberties.
