Cross-stones are probably the most symbolic witnesses of our history and culture.

Mikayel Minasyan, Armenia’s Ambassador to the Holy See, wrote about the aforementioned on his Facebook page.

“In 2014, an Armenian medieval cross-stone was unveiled and put on permanent display at the Vatican Museums,” Minasyan wrote. “Since that day, the cross-stone, which is dated 1246, has its honorable place at the Pope Urban VIII exhibition hall of the Vatican Museums, near the famous Sistine Chapel.

“An average of 27 thousand people from different corners of the world visit the Vatican Museums every day. In museum experts’ view, more than 5 million visitors got familiarized with the Armenian cross-stone, in 2016 alone. It is so symbolic for me that every year millions of people get familiarized with the art of Armenian cross-stone.”
