The Kremlin refused to comment on the statement of the Kurdish self-defense forces, who accused Russia of betrayal over Turkish operation in Afrin, RIA Novosti reported.

"No, I have nothing to add to what I had already said yesterday over Turkish operation in Afrin," spokesperson for Russian President Peskov told reporters, when asked to comment on the statement.

Kremlin closely monitors Turkish operation in Afrin, noted Peskov, adding that Russian representatives are in contact with both Damascus and Ankara.

According to Peskov, Moscow considers the principle of Syrian territorial integrity as fundamental principle, and Russia follows the humanitarian situation in Afrin during Turkish operation.

As reported earlier, Ankara started Olive Branch operation in Syria on Saturday. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Sunday that Turkish land force had launched ground operation in Syria's Afrin. Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels also joined the Turkish military operation.

Damascus strongly condemned Turkey’s aggression.
