US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called for Turkey to show “restraint” in its operation in Syria’s Afrin, AFP reported.
“The violence in Afrin disrupts what was a relatively stable area in Syria and distracts from the international effort to defeat ISIS," Mattis said.
"We urge Turkey to exercise restraint in the military action and the rhetoric."
Ankara started Olive Branch operation in Syria on Saturday. It is conducted mainly against the Kurds of Afrin, as Turkey accuses them of shelling their territory. Damascus strongly condemned the Turkish aggression.
