President of Venezuela Nicholas Maduro said that he is going to run for a second term in case the party approves his candidacy, Interfax reports referring to the Venezuelan TV channel Telesur.

During a conference in Caracas he told the journalists that he is a modest worker, a modest representative of the people. If the United Socialist Party of Venezuela finds that he should become a presidential candidate, he is ready to do it.

The representative of the party, in turn, confirmed that Maduro is likely to be the only candidate from the party.

Presidential elections will be held in the country until the end of April, the Constituent Assembly of Venezuela reported.

Maduro became Hugo Chavez's successor as president of Venezuela in April 2013.
