YEREVAN. – The main objective of the Agreement on Development of Multimodal Transport TRACECA is to create favorable conditions for the development of multimodal transportation, and to take measures toward creating appealing conditions for conducting transportation between the member countries of the agreement.

Gagik Grigoryan, First Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies of Armenia, on Wednesday stated the aforesaid during the National Assembly debates on this document.

“Armenia does not assume any financial obligation under this agreement,” Grigoryan noted, in particular.

He added that Azerbaijan has reservations regarding this accord, whereas Armenia has signed it, but with objection.

Ruling party parliamentary faction member Khosrov Harutyunyan, in turn, noted that by joining this agreement, Armenia will become a logical continuation and a part of the European transport corridors.

“If we take into consideration that this agreement may expand with the joining of Iran, it creates additional opportunities for making Armenia a transit country,” he added.
