A motion recognizing the Armenian Genocide has been presented in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, on Thursday.

The motion is authored by ChristenUnie parliamentarian Joel Voordewind. The motion proposes to send a Dutch minister to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan each April.

“We can not deny history out of fear of sanctions,” Voordewind said to Trouw on Friday. “Our country houses the capital of international law after all, so we must not be afraid to do the right thing here too.”
