YEREVAN. – Turkey’s political leadership created new walls rather than normalized relations, Armenian vice speaker Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters.

Sharmazanov, who is also the spokesperson for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), commented on president’s decision to annul the Armenia-Turkey protocols.

“The Armenian side has reaffirmed its support for relations without preconditions. The spirit of the Zurich Protocols was to establish relations without preconditions, to destroy the walls between the two neighboring countries,” he said after the meeting of RPA executive body on Thursday.

“When we started football diplomacy, the Turkish side said that they wanted to have zero problems with neighbors. They have zeroed the number of neighbors with whom they have no problems.”

At the same time, according to Sharmazanov, the Armenian side ended as a winner.

“At that time, many European figures used to blame us of setting preconditions. But these years have shown that it is the Turkish side that did so,” he added.
