YEREVAN. – The Republicans will decide for themselves whether to have a mayor candidate or not, MP from Republican party Mihran Poghosyan told NEWS.am reporter about the elections of mayor in Yerevan.
He says the republicans will decide it for themselves and there is still time to discuss it since the Council of Elders may make their own decision on choosing a mayor from amongst their members.
When asked about the news of possible extraordinary elections at the end of September Mr. Poghosyan rejected the news.
There are two possible variants: the mayor will be chosen either from the elderly or by extraordinary elections. Republicans will speak out as soon as there is a definite decision of extraordinary elections, he says.
Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan resigned on Monday, July 9. He served at the position since November 15, 2011 being elected by the Council of Elders after the resignation of Karen Karapetyan.
