The subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh has resumed its activities at the CE Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), Naira Zohrabyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
"The PACE Bureau held a sitting this morning. Mevlut Cavusoglu is expected to spare no efforts to resolve one of his major problems, that is, resuming the activities of the subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh. Unfortunately, the subcommittee has resumed its activities," Zohrabyan said. "I should note that, as my colleagues that participated in the sitting told me, the Bureau`s sitting was held with procedural violations. The point is that the Armenian delegation addressed an open letter to the Bureau members. In the letter the Armenian delegation presented arguments against resuming such committee`s activities at PACE - such a committee can only impede the OSCE Minsk Group process. That letter was never enclosed with the documents," Zohrabyan said.
Head of the Armenian delegation David Harutyunyan made a speech and offered convincing arguments that such a committee will affect the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Unfortunately, the Armenian delegation was the only one to vote against such a committee.
Mrs. Zohrabyan also commented on the behavior of Jean-Claude Mignon, a French representative in the PACE Bureau. "I met with him and explained the inadvisability of such a committee. He promised he would make a statement at the sitting. However, he did not say a single word. "I would like to draw the Co-Chair country`s attention to this fact," Zohrabyan said.
She pointed out that Mr Jordi Xucl? i Costa, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Spain, has been appointed Chairman of the subcommittee. The voting was with violations as well.
"Mike Hancock, a pro-Azerbaijani delegate was nominated a couple of days ago, but I protested. He cannot be trusted because he is executing Azerbaijan`s orders. He withdrew, but stated he considers Azerbaijan to be right in this conflict. Jordi Xucl? i Costa was absent from the sitting, but a Georgian delegate nominated him. There may a clash of interests here, as we cannot nominate him without listening to his opinion," Zohrabyan said.
