The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is not a political force formed under a project, the RPA member Hovhannes Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on a statement by Chairman of the Prosperous Party of Armenia (PPA) Gagik Tsarukyan, who said that Armenia`s second president Robert Kocharyan might have been RPA leader if he had wanted to.

Sahakyan stressed that, unlike some political parties, the RPA has an elective chairman rather than "an appointed executive director." As regards the PPA Spokesman Khachik Galstyan`s statements that he did not inform his boss, Gagik Tsarukyan, of RPA members` comments on his [Tasrukyan`s] statements - the PPA leader is only informed of "influential persons`" statements - Sahakyan said: "It is the people that assess political figures` activities not the newly-fledged PPA spokesman. RPA Vice-Chairman Razmik Zohrabyan and RPA Spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov responded to Gagik Tsarukyan`s statement. They both are experienced politicians. As far back as Soviet times Razmik Zohrabyan struggled for Armenia`s independence and was imprisoned for that. And it is not the PPA spokesman that has the right to assess his activities."

Armenian News-NEWS.am reminds readers that PPA Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan`s statement that Robert Kocharyan might have been RPA leader if he had wanted to, evoked violent responses among RPA members. RPA Vice-Chairman Razmik Zohrabyan and RPA Spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the PPA Chairman should be tactful and advised him to express his thoughts in a clearer way. In his turn, PPA Spokesman Khachik Galstyan said he was not going to inform Tsarukyan of RPA members` comments, as he normally informs his boss of "influential persons`" statements.
