I have seen those assessments and reactions, and the Armenian government should respond to those comments, US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills on Wednesday told reporters.

He noted the aforesaid when asked whether some Russian officials’ recent assessments on Armenia’s domestic situation can be considered pressure on the new Armenian authorities and interference in the domestic affairs of the country.

Mills added that their position has been and remains that a thorough and objective investigation should be conducted into the events that occurred in capital city Yerevan in March 2008, and that this investigation should be conducted within the framework of the rule of law and proper legal processes.

On March 1 and 2, 2008, the then authorities used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the recent presidential election. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. But no one had been brought to account for these deaths, to this day.
