YEREVAN. – The velvet revolution is sending a message to the world that Armenia is more open for investments now, Brazil’s Ambassador to Armenia Agemar de Mendonça Sanctos told reporters.

“I see that the investment climate becomes more favorable in Armenia, and it is good news for all,” he said.

Brazil has always had good relations with the Armenian government, as there are good relations with the Armenian people, he emphasized.

At the same time, according to the ambassador, Armenia’s exports is very small, the country does not have almost any products to offer, while Brazil needs big markets.

“The figures of trade turnover are not so great. The volume of exports from Brazil to Armenia is $30 million, and import only $ 1 million. The Brazilian market is very large, with 50 million consumers buying, while 90 percent of Armenia's exports goes to Russia and other regional countries. They cannot meet the demands of the Brazilian market where there are about 7,000 supermarkets. I'm trying to encourage and involve exporters, but at the moment the export volumes are not enough for the Brazilian market,” he emphasized.

According to the diplomat, the Armenian-Brazilian cultural cooperation is much closer.

“This year we had 2 Brazilian Film Festivals in Armenia, Brazilian Music Festival, scholarships for Armenian students to go to Brazil and study Portuguese. We also try to bring students and teachers from Brazil to Armenia. I'm trying to boost the Brazilian culture here. As for tourism, Armenia is a friendly country for Brazil because there is no visa regime between the two countries and Brazilians can freely enter Armenia”

The ambassador highlighted the fact that Armenia and Brazil have signed two treaties in education and technical area.

“The education treaty has already been ratified by the Brazilian Senate, and the Brazilian teachers, professors will come to Armenia to exchange experience. I hope the ratification of the other treaty will take place next summer,” the diplomat added.
