I don’t rule out that there are police officers who are included in the case on March 1 [2008] because various very large personal divisions were included there; but this doesn’t mean that they all are subject to accountability, or are subject to accountability in general.

Armenia’s Chief of Police Valeri Osipyan on Thursday told the aforesaid to reporters. He noted this while commenting on police involvement within the criminal case into what had occurred in capital city Yerevan in March 2008.

“Falsifying documents is a criminally punishable act,” Osipyan noted. “If there are such [people], let them be held accountable.”

Separately, the police chief said he had not seen any demonstrators with weapons or ammunition during the events in March 2008.

“But we all saw wooden sticks, etc.,” he added. “Ask these questions to those who were the superiors those days.”

Separately, Valeri Osipyan informed that he has not been called to testify in connection with the March 2008 case.

In addition, he ruled out that there will be any casualties during rallies in Armenia.

On March 1 and 2, 2008, the then authorities used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the recent presidential election. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. But no one had been brought to account for these deaths, to this day.
