The matter with respect to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General must be resolved in a climate of cooperation and alliance, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told Kommersant newspaper of Russia.

“The CSTO is just as valued to us [Armenia] as for the other members of the organization,” Pashinyan said, in particular. “[But] there is a term for the work of the representative of Armenia in the post of [CSTO] Secretary General; it [the term] hasn’t ended; we [Armenia] [still] have at least one and a half years. It’s not important what the surname of the secretary general is. As it was envisioned, he must be a representative of Armenia throughout the whole term.”

When asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees with Pashinyan’s view, the Armenian PM said the parties agreed that they will discuss this matter with all their partners, and try to reach a mutual agreement.

“This [the CSTO] is a very important organization for Armenia,” Pashinyan added, above all. “It’s very important to us [Armenia] that it be truly effective.”

Also, PM Pashinyan clarified that in case of war with Azerbaijan, the CSTO should help Armenia.

“However, mechanisms should be developed and guarantees be created that what is written on the agreement will actually happen,” he added.
