YEREVAN. – Situation in Syria is of huge importance for Armenia, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said.

“Situation in Syria is also of great importance in terms of regional stability. We are concerned about the security of our compatriots,” the Minister said during a joint briefing with Secretary General of the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF) Michaëlle Jean.

He recalled that Armenia had already accepted a large number of refugees from Syria, and the consulate general in Aleppo, along with the embassy in Damascus, operates to help compatriots.

“Armenia has been repeatedly sending humanitarian aid to Syria,” Mnatsakanyan said. “The security issue is one of the main points, and we are guided by this logic when working with our colleagues.”

He recalled that in the past Russia helped Armenia with the supplies of humanitarian aid.

“We will work together to be able to provide assistance in the humanitarian context,” he said.

Earlier PM NIkol Pashinyan told about the possibility of Armenia’s participation in humanitarian mission in Syria. However, the details of the mission are not known yet.
