YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s yesterday statement was an announcement of the beginning of an era of political terror, Deputy Speaker of the Armenian parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters.

He noted that yesterday everyone expected PM’s clear assessment regarding the content of the wiretapped conversation between the head of National Security Service and the head of the Special Investigation Service, but this did not happen, and this only causes concern.

“The fact that the wiretapping is illegal and causes concern is a fact, there cannot be other opinion on the matter. We, not the National Security Service or the SSS, have to be surprised at how the conversations of the heads of the relevant structures can be wiretapped. Why are they so careless?” said Sharmazanov who is also the spokesperson for the Republican Party of Armenia.

According to him, yesterday the prime minister manipulated the facts and did not touch on the content of the conversation.

“You have repeatedly said that you are not interfering with the work of judiciary, law enforcement agencies. And now, according to the recording, it turns out that the judge is getting in touch with the director of the National Security Service, who tells him you have to make a decision on arrest,” he said.

The wiretapped recording proves that there is a criminal prosecution on a political order in Armenia, he emphasized.
