YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov on Thursday received a delegation, led by the chairman Leonid Kalashnikov of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.

Sharmazanov touched upon Armenian-Russian allied and strategic relations, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. In this context, the NA deputy speaker highlighted the development of parliamentary cooperation, and added that the Armenian parliament makes all possible respective efforts. He referred to the effective work by the delegations of the two countries on international parliamentary platforms.

The development of cooperation within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was discussed, in particular. In this respect, Eduard Sharmazanov spoke about regional security issues, and stressed: “The aspirations of Azerbaijan and Turkey are perilous not only for the security of Armenia, but also for the region. Those two states are a real threat for the southern borders of the CSTO region.”

In the course of the meeting, the sides also discussed the preparations for the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Council and the CSTO PA plenary sessions to be held in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, on October 29 and 30. Eduard Sharmazanov expressed a conviction that these meetings will be convened at the proper level.
