YEREVAN. – Azerbaijani armed forces have opened fire on Armenia, in the direction of Tavush Province, tonight, but they were less than the previous days.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense (MOD) of Armenia, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He informed that on the evening of September 15, the adversary fired shots toward Areni village, in Vayots Dzor Province.

“[But] with actions in response, the firing points of the adversary were suppressed,” he added.

Also, as per the MOD spokesperson, in the early morning hours on Sunday, the Azerbaijani army opened fire toward the 3rd Army Corps of the MOD, but the Armenian side silenced the adversary.

Azerbaijan’s armed forces are firing shots toward Armenia on a regular basis for about a week.

When asked what the Armenian side was doing to stop Azerbaijan’s actions and whether there was a need for petitioning to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) because these Azerbaijani shots are in the direction of Armenia, Hovhannisyan responded that the Armenian armed forces were controlling the situation.

“But, for example today [Monday], the shots were less as compared with previous days; they shot randomly,” he said. “Every time, if necessary, we silence [them] with shots in response. I don’t believe there is matter of petitioning to other organizations. There is neither a tension to such a degree nor those shots have caused such an irresolvable problem that we will not be able to control the situation. Everything is under control, and we punish the adversary, if necessary. And yesterday, the prime minister said we have hit the adversary.”

Artsrun Hovhannisyan noted that Azerbaijan usually resorts to such provocations during field and agricultural activities, or perhaps for political reasons.
