The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on termination of the Russian-Ukrainian Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnerships, TASS reported.

"According to the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from September 6, 2018, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s offer concerning the termination of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, signed on May 31, 1997, has been approved," the message said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will reportedly inform Russia by September 30, and Poroshenko will submit a corresponding bill to the parliament.

According to the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, the Foreign Ministry should inform the UN, OSCE, other international organizations of Ukraine's desire to denounce the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia, and present the grounds for termination.
