Armenia should live in peace so that there was no pressure from Azerbaijan, and no territorial claims from Turkey, member of the ruling party United Russia, Maxim Matskevich told reporters in Yerevan on Tuesday.

While commenting on Karabakh conflict, he noted: “If the situation gets out of control, Azerbaian, and Turkey as well, would be interested in laying claims for some territories, but it is unacceptable. There is Armenia and there is Karabakh. People must live in their country, in their state, so that the civilian population no longer suffers. Now we see the latest developments in Nagorno-Karabakh, and we are worried over the situation.”

Touching upon the Armenian-Russian relations, the politician noted that Russia and Armenia are friendly countries.

“Russia is an important strategic partner for Armenia, for us Armenia is a fraternal nation. I hope that the relationship will improve,” he said.

According to him, when Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was an opposition MP, he sharply opposed the development of Russian-Armenian relations.

“Now we see that his position has been changing. And I hope that he will understand Russia and Armenia should be together,” he added.
