Talks between the leaders of the EU member states and the UK Prime Minister Theresa May did not demonstrate significant progress on Brexit, Reuters reported.

The talks were held on Wednesday during the dinner of the participants of the EU summit, which will be held on Thursday in Salzburg.

Theresa May noted that “extending negotiations isn't an option”.

In turn, she rejected the proposal of the European Commission to establish a customs border between Northern Ireland and the rest of Britain.

“At this stage, it’s a standstill. There is no progress,” Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite told Reuters after the dinner.

Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini added: “On the border issue, there has been no progress. We’ll see what the 27 discussion will show tomorrow.”

Representatives of 27 EU countries intend to discuss their further actions on Brexit in the absence of Theresa May on Thursday in Salzburg.
