YEREVAN. – Political changes cannot affect Armenia’s independence, Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan told reporters on Friday.

“On September 21, 1991, we [Armenia] have gained independence, and we self-govern in a very powerful way,” he noted, “whereas political changes, political commotions cannot affect our independence; on the contrary, they strengthen [it].”

Asked whether Armenia—being a small country—can be fully independent, the minister responded: “Our country is as much as it is. We are confronting and impacting all actions.”

And to the query as to whether Armenia’s autonomy has increased ever since the recent change of power in the country, Tonoyan replied: “This is a process. No political process can affect our independence; it’s only strengthening.”
