Restoration of an Armenian church in the Turkish city of Bayindir will kick off in May-June 2011.

Bayindir’s municipality jointly with the regional department of Izmir province presented the project in 2009 which was later submitted to the province’s governor, Haberoku website reported. After the project is approved in May-June 2011 restoration will start to be completed in 2012.

Mehmet Kertis, Mayor of Bayindir, noted that services were conducted in the church in the middle of 19th century. “We thought we need to restore the Armenia church to preserve it for future generations. It will be used as a hall for different events or as a library,” he said.
