Tracy also served at the U.S. consulate in Peshawar, Pakistan, from September 2006 to August 2009. On Aug. 26, 2008, she was attacked by gunmen who riddled her car with bullets, shooting out the front tires while she was being driven to work, Akron Beacon Journal newspaper reported.

Tracy, with the help of her bodyguard and driver, escaped. She was later awarded the Secretary’s Award for Heroism for her quick thinking and decision to return to the post on the day she was attacked, and her decision to complete her mission even after repeated threats against her life.
