NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has announced that the alliance welcomes the voting in the referendum on renaming Macedonia, RT reported.

“I welcome the yes vote in [the Macedonia] referendum,” Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter. “I urge all political leaders & parties to engage constructively & responsibly to seize this historic opportunity. NATO’s door is open, but all national procedures have to be completed.”

Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev had called on the country’s parliament to “recognize the will of the majority,” when “more than 90 percent” of voters in the referendum supported the renaming of Macedonia.
