Armenia is among the five member states of the Council of Europe with the lowest budget allocated to judicial system per capita in 2016, says a new report about the judicial systems of European states.

Armenia’s public budget per capita made 8.4 euros, almost eight times lower than the average budget of 64.5.

In Armenia, court fees shaped 16% of the budget of the whole judicial system, comparable to 19% European average.

Armenia is also among the countries with the lowest number of professional judges per100,000 inhabitants (7.7 judges). At the same time the average gross salaries of judges in Armenia in comparison to average salaries in the country are high – just like in Azerbaijan and Romania, for example. At the beginning of the career judges earn more than four times the average salary and at the end of their career, more than eight times the average salary.

According to the report, Armenia has 61.9 lawyers per 100,000 inhabitants. It is more than twice lower than the European average of 162 lawyers.

- The distribution of different judicial professionals by gender in 2016 shows that 9% of public prosecutors are females (where the average is 53%) and 42% of lawyers are females in Armenia.
