YEREVAN. – We continue attentively following the internal developments in Armenia, and I was very pleased to see on October 2 that the events unfolded peacefully, the outgoing US Ambassador Richard Mills said during his last meeting with reporters in Yerevan.
“The day for elections is a matter for political parties, the government and the Armenian people to come to a decision. What we, the United States, and all friends of Armenia want to see is that this election is free and fair, and that there is a credible process and gives all parties, whether they are in the parliament or not, a chance to fully participate,” the Ambassador said.
In this case, the process will have a credibility with the Armenian people, and will produce democracy with a loyal opposition and the majority party, the U.S. envoy added.
“I am very encouraged with my discussions with various parties, and there is a spirit of sitting down and reaching compromise,” he said, adding that compromise is the best way to move forward to reach stability.
