YEREVAN. – During the recent years many resources were used to develop IT sector in Armenia, and  U.S. played a leading role, because flagship US companies were present here, outgoing U.S. ambassador Richard Mills said on Tuesday.

He emphasized that resources have been shifted away from such areas as tourism, mining and wine production.

“It is of course ultimately Armenia’s decision what sectors have to be developed, but I urge to pay attention to the economy that is diverse and that has stability in many sectors,” he said.

Richard Mills emphasized the need to reform Armenia’s education system to have the IT development that the country needs.

“And that will take time,” he added.

Mills assured that the United States will continue supporting the efforts to create a diverse economy with many sectors.
