Resident of Hrazdan Shahen Hayrapetyan has accused Artak Alexanyan, the nephew of MP Samvel Alexanyan, of a brutal assault.

S. Hayrapetyan told RFE/RL that he had filed a report with the Office of the General Prosecutor of Armenia in hopes that the Prosecutor’s Office will institute criminal proceedings against persons who committed assault, and ensure his and his family’s safety. The report applies not only to Artak Aleksanyan, but ten additional accomplices.

According to S. Hayrapetyan, who worked as a delivery man for the company “Soir”, he was threatened that if he did not repay a debt of 1.5 million drams, stemming from the closure of several stores where Hayrapetyan delivers goods, his house in Hrazdan would be bombed, and he and his family would suffer some sort of retaliation. Currently, Hayrapetyan and his family have left their home.

On February 3, Artak Aleksanyan’s friend called Mr. Hayrapetyan and arranged a meeting at “Yerevan City” supermarket on Komitas Street to negotiate an agreement. However, upon his arrival he was brought to the supermarket basement and subjected to a severe beating.

According to Hayrapetyan, this was done at Artak Alexanyan’s order, who together with a dozen other thugs, violently beat him with a stick.

“Yerevan City” supermarket on Komitas Street has refuted the story.
