YEREVAN.- Armenian foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held a meeting October 10 with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, who has arrived in Yerevan for the XVII La Francophonie summit.

During the meeting, Mnatsakanyan highly appreciated the existing close cooperation in international arenas over issues of mutual interest, finding it to be a good basis for advancing the bilateral agenda. In this context, as an initial step the sides emphasized the memorandum on holding political consultations which was signed in New York City.

The Armenian FM said that the development of relations with southeast Asian countries is among the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy, and that the opportunities of multilateral formats are fully used in this context.

Both sides attached importance to the La Francophonie organization, as a good arena for strengthening ties between member countries. The upcoming XVII summit was discussed.

The Armenian FM presented the priorities of Armenia’s chairmanship in the organization.

Yerevan is hosting the XVII International Organisation of La Francophonie summit in 2018.

The events will take place October 7-12, with the summit scheduled for the final two days.  

Armenia is a member of the organization since 2008.
