More than 600 million children in the world cannot receive the minimum compulsory schooling, said UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay at the Yerevan-hosted Francophonie summit.

She highlighted the importance of ensuring education for women and girls.

“This is especially important today on the International Day of the Girls,” noted Audrey Azoulay.

“The present and future generations must confront demographic, environmental and radicalism challenges. But together with the UN, La Francophonie, and UNESCO we can give answers to these challenges,” she added.

She also referred to the memory of Charles Aznavour, noting that, he was the pride of Armenia, and symbolized everything that Francophonie countries are carrying.
