Saudi security and government officials will be included in the list of sanctions which is being prepared by the UK foreign ministry after the disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the Independent wrote quoting its sources.

“Instructions were given to Treasury and others to identify potential targets for sanctions if it is necessary, which I now am told has geared up considerably in the past 48 hours,” the source said.

On 10 October, the Turkish authorities announced they are searching for a black van, which allegedly may contain the remains of Khashoggi, a well-known critic of the government. In 2017, he moved to the United States, where he collaborated with The Washington Post.

The journalist disappeared on October 2, when he applied to the Saudi Arabia’s general consulate in Turkey to obtain divorce documents. The wife assures that he did not leave the institution; employees insist there was nobody in the room.
