Turkey must take steps that require courage to join the EU, since it will be forced to face Europe, expressed Turkish human rights activist, publisher Ragip Zarakolu to Armenian News - NEWS.am correspondent, commenting on Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement that Turkey is no longer the country that will be waiting at the door of the EU as an obedient supplicant.

“The idea of the EU is that in their time European countries that were killing each other are now partners. Why can’t Turkey and Armenia adjust to such partnerships?”, - Said Zarakolu.

As reported earlier by Armenian News - NEWS.am, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Newsweek magazine that Turkey is not going to endlessly knock on EU doors and beg to let her into the organization. “Our European friends should understand that Turkey’s relations with the EU are approaching to a turning point. We are no longer the country that will be waiting at the door of the EU as an obedient supplicant,” said Erdogan.
