The US Army is going to set up observation posts along the border of Turkey and Syria, Defense Secretary James Mattis said, Deutsche Welle (DW) reported.

In his words, these posts will aim to reduce tensions between Turkish authorities and US-aligned Kurdish forces.

The outposts will allow US forces to “call the Turks and warn them if we see something coming out of an area we’re operating in,” Mattis added stressing that the setting up of these posts had been discussed with Ankara.
