YEREVAN. – The attorney general’s petition to strip former ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s National Assembly (NA) Faction member Aram Harutyunyan from his parliamentary immunity and to detain him will be debated on at the regular sessions of the NA, and which will commence on Tuesday.

But considering that the campaign season is in full swing in the country for Sunday’s snap parliamentary election, it is likely that these sittings will not be convened.

The procedure for the NA giving its consent for launching a criminal prosecution against an MP, or for the latter being taken into custody, is specified by Article 108 of the Constitutional Law of the NA Rules of Procedure.

As reported earlier, Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan on Monday petitioned to the NA, with a request to give its consent for launching criminal proceedings against NA deputy Aram Harutyunyan, and for remanding him in custody.
