The Gyumri technopark became a silicone oasis for the Armenian regions, Sylvie Bossutrot, the head of the Armenian office of the World Bank said during the “Empowering Regions through High Tech-Forum 2018” conference at the Gyumri Technology Center.

According to her, the World Bank is proud that it has supported the revival of the Gyumri technological center, aimed at creating an “electronic community”.

Investments were not limited to the construction of physical infrastructures for the Gyumri technocenter, they also aimed at building a powerful IT ecosystem, Bossutrot said adding that over 20 thousand IT specialists have been trained there, and about 100 companies used the services of the Center. The technopark is operating at full capacity: 30 companies and about 300 employees are involved in it.

A similar center was created in the Armenia’s city of Vanadzor, and there are projects to build similar technology parks in other areas, she added.

According ho her, many young specialists from Gyumri have returned to establish their start-up in the Gyumri technology center and thus contribute to the revival of their city.

Gyumri Technopark was opened in September 2014.

The total budget of the project was amounted to $ 4 million. The building was destroyed as a result of the 1988 Spitak earthquake.
