The capital city Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on Friday denied the Special Investigation Service’s petition that Armenia’s Former Deputy Prime Minister and former Secretary of the Security Council,  Armen Gevorgyan, be remanded in custody.

Gevorgyan is charged with taking a very large bribe by an official, committing very large-scale money laundering, and aiding in breaching Armenia’s constitutional order as well as the obstruction of justice in connection with the criminal case into the tragic events that occurred in Yerevan, in March 2008.

Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko said the problem over the appointment of CSTO Secretary General was created by Armenia’s acting PM Nikol Pashinyan, not other CSTO leaders.

Lukashenko said if Pashinyan acted wisely, they could have resolved the problem quietly. However, Pashinyan “gave us a taste of domestic political problems” and “got us involved in the backlash inside Armenia”.

The Belarus leader said the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan asked Pashinyan just one question:  why did not he call and ask for advice before making important decisions?

Speaking about a closed-door meeting of the Eurasian Union leaders in Saint Petersburg, Lukashenko emphasized that they were all apologizing to each other. He confessed to offering an apology to Nikol Pashinyan “for attacking him due to various reasons”.

The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has approved the nominations of Lynne Tracy as US Ambassador to Armenia and Earle Litzenberger as US Ambassador to Azerbaijan.

The Armenians of America said they are looking forward to Ambassador-Designate Tracy's timely approval by the Senate and the start of her service in Armenia, “where she is well positioned to upgrade U.S.-Armenia strategic relations.”

A car registered at the Ministry of Defense hit a woman in her 60s who was jaywalking in downtown Yerevan.

The driver of this vehicle tried to help this woman until an ambulance arrived. However, a Range Rover coming at high speed had run over this woman who was lying on the road, whereas the driver of the Kia Sorento had barely escaped from being hit by this Range Rover.

The police are searching for the said Range Rover and its driver.

Azerbaijan plans to replace troops on the border with Armenia by border guards.

Border Troops will occupy posts and military facilities on the border with Armenia in Gazakh and Agstafa regions, said the commander of the border troops

He explained this decision by high combat readiness and equipment of the border forces.

Security personnel immediately took him off the pitch.
