The United States completed the construction of a military base in the western Iraqi province of Anbar near the Iraq-Syrian border, Akhbar Al Iraq reported.

According to high-ranking military official Ahmed al-Mahallawi, the base is expected to establish control over the Syrian border as well as to provide the necessary protection for the US forces stationed in the area.

The total number of American troops stationed in Iraq will be 5.5 thousand. The troops will be deployed in Baghdad, Anbar, Naina, with the army complex located in the administrative capital Erbil.
