Moscow hopes that the issue of the appointment of the CSTO Secretary General will be settled before the end of this year, Russia’s Kommersant newspaper reported quoting a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“I think there will be clarity on December 27 after Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with Vladimir Putin. It is desirable to start the New Year with positive news. We hope that on December 27 everything will be decided. A compromise is needed. We count on the wisdom of the Armenian side and on the fact that the position of the five presidents will be taken into account. When you are in an organization, you must be ready for a compromise,” said the source.

Five of the six member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) officially endorsed the candidacy of the head of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zasya for the post of Secretary General of the organization.

“The meeting with the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia has been postponed to a later date,” he noted.
