Everybody must serve in the army, Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan stated at his meeting with the teaching staff and students of Yerevan State University.

As regards young people who were granted deferment of military service, including students, Minister Ohanyan said that they did not violate the law. "However, I agree that everybody must serve in the army," the Minister said. He pointed out that fewer young people are granted deferments from year to year.

One of the attendees asked the minister about the officials that never served in the army. He must have alluded to Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan. Minister Ohanyan said that all the officials were exempted on legal grounds.

Minister Ashotyan answered the question on his behalf. He said that he studied at a medical higher school which had a military training department. That implied different approaches and registration.
