The US administration is looking for a venue for the second meeting of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, CNN reported.

The search for a suitable venue for the future summit began after Trump's statement that his meeting with Kim Jong-un will take place in the "not too distant future."

Washington does not consult on this issue with South Korean representatives, who noted the preference would be for it to take place in an Asian country.

The North Koreans, meanwhile, have said they would like the summit in Pyongyang, the source noted.

Vietnam, Indonesia, Hawaii, Mongolia and the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea have all been considered by foreign diplomats and North Korea experts as potential venues for the next summit.

CNN noted that summit planning is at a very early stage and can take several more months.
