The Chinese Ministry of Commerce believes that the trade talks with the US laid the foundation for resolving the differences between the parties, the department said in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the source, the sides held extensive talks including the exchange of views on trade and structural issues, CNBC reported referring to the statement.

The sides also increased the level of mutual understanding on a number of issues, the statement added.
