YEREVAN. – There are obstacles that can be dangerous for Armenian statehood regardless of who is in power, Armenian First Deputy Prime Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, it is necessary to carry out constitutional reforms to avoid this.

“The Constitution should clearly prescribe the powers of this or that body without depending on this or that political situation,” he said.

Asked to comment on whether the heads of the Police and the National Security Service should be controlled by the PM, Ararat Mirzoyan said. “In my opinion, the National Security Service should remain under the direct control of the prime minister, while the status of the Police should be discussed yet. The problem rests on the accountability of these bodies to the National Assembly.”
