Russia and Iran are the advocates of the preservation of the status quo in the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict.

Hrant Markarian, a representative of the Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party of Armenia, stated about the above-said at Wednesday’s general assembly of this political force.

“The strategy for ‘freezing’ the Karabakh issue begins to be replaced by the superpowers’ conflict due to the rearrangement of power in the region from the Mediterranean to the Caspian [Seas], [and] which [the conflict] has in its basis the objectives of pushing Russia out of the region, on the one hand, and forming an anti-Iranian front, on the other hand,” Markarian said, in particular. “After the change of power [in Armenia], the complications that came up in Armenia-Russia, Armenia-Iran relations attest that the developed strategy has started working.

“Now, Russia and Iran are the advocates of the preservation of the status quo in the Karabakh issue, [and] therefore the quick settlement of the matters that have come up with these states has no alternative.”
