YEREVAN. – On January 10, the State Revenue Committee (SRC) officers at capital city Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport inspected two parcels with clothing inside—and weighing a total of 25 kg, and which were being sent from Armenia to Canada on behalf of an Iranian citizen.

But the inspection revealed that the thick felts inside the clothing were absorbed with opium, the SRC informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

On January 11, the SRC officers at Agarak border checkpoint—at the border with Iran—detained the Iranian citizen who was sending the aforesaid parcel to Canada.

Also, another Iranian national involved in the incident was detained nearby Zvartnots airport.

The SRC has filed a criminal case, and an investigation is underway.

The two Iranian citizens have been arrested.
