YEREVAN. – As of today, there are four Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, two of which are the citizens of Armenia, one—of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and one is an ethnic Armenian citizen of Russia.

Prosperous Armenia Party MP Naira Zohrabyan, who is a candidate for Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs, stated the abovementioned at Thursday’s session of the new parliament.

In her words, the fate of one of the Armenians—Karen Ghazaryan—has received a fairly broad public resonance.

“But it will not be honest if I say that we have any major leverage on this matter” Zohrabyan explained. “Excessive populism in these matters often leads to complication of the case.”

Zohrabyan noted that they have three numbers with respect to the missing Armenians. Accordingly, as per the Ministry of Defense data, about 320 people have gone missing from the Armenian side.

“The International Committee of the Red Cross has presented its [respective] report, and it’s based on the number of applications submitted to the given organization. According to their data, the number of missing from the Armenian side is close to four hundred,” the MP said. “‘Against Legal Arbitrariness’ NGO head [first Human Rights Defender of Armenia, and public activist] Larisa Alaverdyan (…), for her part, declares that the number of missing from our side reaches nine hundred.”
