YEREVAN. – On Thursday evening, the capital city Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction considered the Special Investigation Service’s (SIS) petition to remand Armenia’s ex-Minister of Nature Protection and former MP Aram Harutyunyan in custody.

Hunan Ter-Vardanyan, the attorney of Harutyunyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the defense has not filed a motion with the court to consider bail, or some other preventive measure, with respect to Harutyunyan.

He noted that the court’s decision on the SIS petition will be issued Friday at 1pm.

The SIS had stated that Aram Harutyunyan has become a defendant in a criminal case on bribe-taking. As per the respective charge, while being a senior official in Armenia’s executive branch of power, Harutyunyan had taken a particularly large bribe, and, subsequently, he had legalized the especially large amount of assets that were obtained through illicit means.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Harutyunyan.
