YEREVAN. – In cooperation with competent authorities, the Government of Armenia’s authorized representative at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is taking steps toward ensuring that the requirements of the ECHR decision are met.
The Ministry of Justice of Armenia noted about the aforementioned in a statement in connection with the ECHR granting the petition by businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan, who is under arrest in Armenia.
In particular, the statement notes that Mayrapetyan had asked the European Court to obligate the Armenian authorities to return his passport to him and to permit him to immediately leave Armenia for treatment at a medical facility in Germany.
Samvel Mayrapetyan was remanded in custody on charges of mediation to bribe-taking, and a criminal charge was brought against him.
To note, Mayrapetyan is also the owner of a TV company in Armenia.
