YEREVAN. – The preliminary court hearing on the case Sedrak Kocharyan vs. Artur Vanetsyan started Monday at capital city Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.

Sedrak Kocharyan, the son of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, demands that National Security Service (NSS) Director Artur Vanetsyan publicly renounce the statement he had made regarding Robert Kocharyan. This refers to Vanetsyan’s announcement during a joint press conference with Special Investigation Service Head Sasun Khachatryan that, “By demanding a $6mn bribe, Robert Kocharyan has become a shareholder of Congress Hotel [in Yerevan].”

Before starting the preliminary hearing, the court asked the two parties whether they wanted to settle the case through reconciliation.

Sedrak Kocharyan’s legal representative noted that they were ready for reconciliation if Vanetsyan renounce his aforementioned statement.

The NSS director’s attorney, however, noted that they could not reconcile. As per the defense, Vanetsyan’s statement does not refer to Sedrak Kocharyan. The attorney added that the Republic of Armenia, and not Artur Vanetsyan, should have been recognized the defendant in this case.
